Brigantin’s first cria Vicenza was an outstanding bay black female who is absolutely buttery soft, dense, and crimpy. We were not wrong in thinking that she would be special as she took blue ribbons at both MAPACA and PAOBA this year. Brigantin’s second cria Galena was a true black female and also a show winner at MAPACA and PAOBA. We were so pleased with Galena that we rebred Brigantin to Charleston for a 2009 cria and again we were rewarded with a true black little male named Matrix. His fleece is incredibly soft, bright, and crimpy. Brigantin is once again bred to Charleston which if nothing else should attest to the quality of both Galena and Matrix since we chose the same sire. We have been pleased with Galena’s lasting fineness and overall uniformity that she has maintained past her cria fleece. We will be expecting the same from Matrix and Brigantin’s next cria due in the fall of 2010. We never showed Brigantin in any halter competitions primarily because her cria fleece got too long. She had 7 inches of growth with her cria tips during her first year. She is the epitome of a quality fiber producing female. A testament to this was her second place fleece show win at PAOBA in 2008 behind our own herdsire Charleston. This is rather impressive considering the fact that she was pregnant with her first cria while producing this fleece. Brigantin is possibly our best valued animal for the future of the North American fiber industry. From outstanding uniform colored black fleece production to outstanding healthy cria production Brigantin has been all that we could ask for. |
